A Standardized Direct Measure for Project Management Programs
Measuring student learning at the program level takes more than knowing whether students passed individual courses. Programs need consistent evidence of what students know across the project management curriculum and a way to connect that evidence back to their learning outcomes.
Peregrine's Project Management Assessment provides a standardized, program-level direct measure of undergraduate project management knowledge. The 100-question assessment covers 11 project management areas, with each topic organized into subjects and core principles that provide a more detailed view of what is being measured.
What Does the Assessment Measure?
The Project Management Assessment evaluates student knowledge across 11 areas:
|
|
Each topic includes two to three subjects, with assessment questions tied to specific core principles. This structure allows programs to look beyond broad topic names and understand the knowledge represented within each area.
Support Your GAC Assessment Process
PMI's Global Accreditation Center expects programs to demonstrate achievement of program learning outcomes through a systematic assessment and continuous improvement process.
Peregrine's Project Management Assessment can serve as a standardized direct measure within that broader process. The assessment aligns most directly with GAC's Technical Expertise Core Area of Focus, with additional content relevant to elements of Professional Behavior and Strategic Awareness.
Project Management programs may also operate within business schools accredited by AACSB, ACBSP, or IACBE. Peregrine works with institutions accredited by these organizations and provides assessment, reporting, and student feedback tools that can support broader assurance of learning and continuous improvement efforts.
Assessment–Accreditor Alignment Guide
Standardized by design. Every institution administers the same 100-question learning outcomes assessment covering all 11 Project Management areas.
The Assessment Structure
Covers 11 areas of undergraduate Project Management to provide a program-level view of student knowledge.
Deeper Insight
Each area includes 2–3 subjects, helping faculty see where strengths and learning gaps may be concentrated.
Clear Measurement
Defined core principles clarify the knowledge being measured within each subject.
Built for Relevance
Developed with subject matter experts and informed by Project Management practice, industry expectations, and accreditation frameworks such as PMI GAC.
Turn Assessment Results into Evidence You Can Use
Assessment data is most useful when faculty can do something with it. Peregrine reporting helps programs review student performance, identify strengths and learning gaps, and use the results as part of accreditation and continuous improvement discussions.
Results can be revisited across assessment cycles, giving programs a consistent measure they can use as they evaluate curriculum and student learning over time.
Important note: External aggregate benchmarking is not yet available for the Project Management Assessment. As participation grows, pilot administrations will help establish the data foundation needed for future benchmarking.
Be a Part of the Project Management Assessment Pilot
Peregrine is inviting institutions to participate in a no-cost, one-semester pilot of our new Project Management Assessment.
Participating institutions will administer the complete, standardized 100-question assessment and receive detailed results to help evaluate student knowledge, identify learning gaps, and inform continuous improvement efforts.
Developed using PMBOK 7 and other applicable PMI guidance, the current assessment offers institutions an opportunity to measure project management knowledge while evaluating their transition to PMBOK 8. Peregrine is also reviewing the assessment to identify potential updates that reflect the evolving guidance.
Pilot participation will support ongoing psychometric analysis and help establish the data foundation for future aggregate benchmarking.

Assessment Framework and PMBOK Alignment
The Project Management Assessment was developed using established PMI guidance, including the PMBOK® Guide - Seventh Edition and Process Groups: A Practice Guide.
With the publication of the PMBOK® Guide - Eighth Edition, Peregrine is reviewing the assessment to identify where content or updates may be needed to reflect the revised guidance. Many foundational project management concepts remain consistent across editions, and the review will help determine where existing questions remain applicable and where revisions or additional content may be appropriate.
The current assessment is available for institutions whose learning outcomes and curricula align with its content.
Add Student Perspective to Your Direct Measure
Pair assessment results with feedback from the students who experienced your program.
Institutions can add a fully customizable student survey alongside the Project Management Assessment to collect feedback on learning experiences, program satisfaction, or other measures important to your institution.
Survey questions can also be aligned to program learning outcomes, giving your team an additional source of indirect evidence to use alongside the direct assessment.

Peregrine’s Inbound/Outbound assessment construct measures student learning from the beginning to the end of a program. This approach provides a more complete understanding of student achievement.
While many institutions choose to implement both assessments to track growth over time, the model is flexible, and you can use just an Outbound assessment if a single measure better fits your program needs.
"Peregrine has simplified our outbound assessment process for undergraduate and graduate business programs while providing robust reporting to assist us in assessment efforts for our ACBSP accreditation while benchmarking our progress against our peers. The team at Peregrine is top-notch, responsive, well-versed in their product offerings, and has delivered everything they said they would."
